BrainVoyager v23.0

Credits

BrainVoyager has been designed and developed primarily by Rainer Goebel over the last 20 years. Brain Innovation is grateful to its present and former staff members Makis Marimpis, Hester Breman, Judith Eck, Joost Mulders, Levin Fritz, Fabrizio Esposito, Pim Pullens, Jochen Weber, Julien Rouger and Federico de Martino for contributing important tools and plugins extending the computational capabilities of the program. Their implemented tools and plugins allow to perform ICA, template-based normalization, cluster-size thresholding, BOLD Latency Mapping, NIfTI/GIFTI conversion, graph-theoretical connectivity analysis and much more. For an overview of contributed plugins, please select Description Of Plugins in the Plugins menu. More plugins and scripts can be found on the BrainVoyager support site

Rainer Goebel and Fabrizio Esposito have designed the overall workflow of the EMEG Suite and implemented its GUI. Fabrizio Esposito has implemented the computational part of the EMEG Suite together with Julien Rouger. Joost Mulders has implemented the NGF-based FMR-VMR coregistration routine, MNI template matching and an improved brain extraction tool. Jochen Weber has contributed to the EMEG file format conversion and has implemented the BVQXTools. Levin Fritz has implemented the GPU-based real-time volume renderer and several OpenCL routines (e.g. sinc interpolation) based on original code of Rainer Goebel. Makis Marimpis implemented the connectivity and graph analysis tool. Papers and books that have helped us to implement various methods of BrainVoyager are cited in the respective sections of the User's Guide.

Brain Innovation is very grateful to the following persons for granting permission to use their great code:

Niko Kriegeskorte

For the "bridge removel" routine removing topological errors in segmented brain hemispheres. Details of the routines implemented in the provided code are described in:

Kriegeskorte N. & Goebel R. (2001). An efficient algorithm for topologically correct segmentation of the cortical sheet in anatomical MR volumes. NeuroImage, 14, 329-346.

Alard Roebroeck

For the Granger Causality Mapping (GCM) plugin. Details of the routines implemented in the provided code are described in:

Roebroeck A., Formisano E. & Goebel R. (2005). Mapping directed influence over the brain using Granger causality and fMRI, NeuroImage, 25, 230-242.

Marco Mecchia

For the Randomise plugin allowing nonparametric permutation inference for multi-subject designs.

Philippe Thévenaz

For multi-scale image registration routines and cubic spline interpolation. The routines implemented in the provided code are described in:

Thévenaz P. and Unser M.(1998). A Pyramid Approach to Subpixel Registration Based on Intensity. IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 1, 27-41.

Wiliam H. Press and colleagues

Permission granted to use various basic signal analysis routines including fast fourier transformation and singular value decomposition. Details of the routines implemented in the used code are described in the famous "Numerical Recipes" book for C and C++. The reference for the C version is:

Press W.H., Flannery B.P., Teukolsky S.A. & Vetterling W.T. (1992). Numerical Recipes in C: The Art of Scientific Computing - 2nd ed. Cambridge: University Press.

Note that in more recent versions of BrainVoyager, MKL routines (with a commercial license from Intel) are used for most signal analysis routines.

Brain Innovation is also very grateful for the following useful assets:

ICBM and MNI template brains

We are grateful to Arthur Toga for permission to use the ICBM-452 template brain in BrainVoyager that we use for template-based alignment. We also are grateful to the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) for group and individual template brains that can be used to visualize analysis results.
